ILYAS
“ILYAS”, Bashkir ethnic song, uzun-kuy. First registered by L.N. Lebedinskiy in 1937 from M.F. Burangulov, published in “Bashkort khalk yirdary” collection by G.Z. Suleymanov. The song is lyrodramatic. According to the legend, the origin of “I.” is connected with a tragic accident at hunting. One of the brothers fell asleep as a result of long waiting and, when partially awoken, fatally wounded the other brother as he mistook his beaver hat for a fox. The distinctive feature of the tune is multiple singing of an upper third tone, which is the intonation base of the song. The song is used by M.K. Akhmetov in his Symphony № 3 called «After reading Bashkir epos “Ural-batyr”» as a vocal insertion.
